RydeOn! University's Power Winner Competes With Himself

RydeOn! University's first “semester” is over, but the success continues for our Power winner, Mitch Gasche, who improved his WATTS by more than seventy-nine percent in just twelve weeks. According to Mitch, the secret of that success lies in several things – the inspiration to think more about his eating he received from reading Brigid's Keys to Success in Health and Fitness series, his RydeOn! instructors and fellow classmates, and his sense of being in competition with himself.
The result? Not only has Mitch increased what he can do in his indoor cycling classes, but “I am more physically fit for sure and I do have more energy. I have lost 11 pounds and changed my appearance by reducing my body fat,” Mitch said. “I still need to lose more weight, but it has been a good start.” Mitch added that the biggest change that he and his wife Kim have both noticed is that he has developed more muscle while losing the fat, which has resulted in a bigger change in his appearance than he would have seen from weight loss alone.

While Mitch enjoyed the camaraderie of RydeOn! University, he said that he achieved his impressive increase in WATTS one Ryde at a time by focusing on his competitive instincts.
“I am competitive with myself; improving my WATTS from ride to ride was a competition for me,” Mitch explained. “Tracking my WATTS gave me a target to shoot for each ride. I had a goal for each ride of trying to better the WATTS from the last ride. It didn’t always happen but it allowed me to focus on a short term goal to strive for and not get discouraged about SEEING results right away.”

Mitch, who plays basketball with a group of friends five mornings a week, has definitely seen an improvement in his game thanks to his time spent in RydeOn! U, and said that his basketball group has noticed that he's able to run the court more than before he signed up for the RydeOn! Program.
Not only that, but Mitch said that he's even started cycling outdoors from time to time – something he hadn't done in a few years.
During RydeOn! University Mitch didn't “just” work on improving his physical condition, but on his diet as well. Even though he's a regular basketball player and had done some other exercise prior to taking indoor cycling with RydeOn!, Mitch said, “My diet is my downfall in that I don’t eat regular meals and tend to either eat large meals for dinner or snack too much.” But since RydeOn! University, he added, “I still need to work on the diet aspect, but I am eating better and smaller, more frequent meals.”
While RydeOn! University may be finished for 2012, Mitch said that he's just beginning to apply what he's learned. He plans to keep attending our indoor cycling classes and working on his dietary habits to continue building on his success.
“We're thrilled with Mitch's accomplishments during RydeOn! U,” said RydeOn! co-founder Brigid Lossing. “People like Mitch, who really just need a support system and some focused encouragement to achieve their goals, are the reason that my partner Christina and I put the program together in the first place. We can't wait to see how far Mitch and the rest of his “classmates” go from here!”
