Take Your Personal Shopper with you When Shopping for a new Winter Coat!

It is almost that time of year again in Michigan when we pull out our winter coats.Many people don't realize it, but we spend more time wearing our winter coats than we do wearing most other clothing items. Take my list of things to consider when chosing a new winter coat with you when you go shopping!

1. What is the purpose of the Coat? Is this coat primarily for special occasions,or to wear in the car pool line?Obviously, you will probably not buy the same coat for both of these occasions.Before shopping decide what is the main purpose of this years winter coat.

2.Choose the length. When you are chosing a new coat you need to consider what looks good on your frame before making a selection. The same coat will not look good on a different body shape.Look at pictures of people with similar body shapes to yours, or identify a coat you like, and see if it looks good on your frame.

3.Style Option. How long do you want to wear this coat? If you want to be wearing it in 5 years, i suggest that you bypass the current trend, and chose something with classic styling that will look good in several seasons. Do you want a hood? How do you feel about snaps or buttons? Do you look good with a belt tied around your waist?

4.Color. This is important. If you wear a lot of color you may want to go with either black or white as an everyday coat color. They are neutral. I also recommend you chose a color that looks good on you, not just the current trendy color.For some this is red, for someone else it could be navy. This is a color that blends with your other clothing,accessories,or footwear. It is nice to have your coat in this color block,as it gives you confidence.
