Coach Robb Retiring From Football after 25 Years
Coach ends career with eight league titles and 168 wins
Milan head football coach Steve Robb resigned after 25 years in the position on Thursday, Feb. 17. He will continue to teach physical education at Milan High School.
“I am very fortunate to have coached the players here. (Milan) is a small town where high school football and all sports are still important. Everyone–parents, students and the administration–has always been very supportive. It has been a privilege to coach here,” said Robb.
Robb came to a struggling Milan program in 1986 and immediately made an impact. He had seven years as an assistant coach at Albion, Redford Thurston and Dearborn Divine Child before coming to the Big Reds.

In 25 years, the Big Reds have gone 168-78 and won eight league titles under Coach Robb. They won six or more games in 18 seasons. The past four seasons saw a 29-13 mark with four consecutive Division 3 playoff berths and two Huron League championships. All of his teams were known for their physicality and enthusiasm.
“That reputation of how they played is representative of Steve and his personality and how he goes about all of his business. He’s leaving the program in a good position. It’s going to be a tough position to fill,” said Milan Athletic Director David Kaiser.

Robb earned the State Class “B” Coach of the Year in 1997 by the Associated Press and was named to the Michigan High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame in 2006.
During his tenure, 18 players were named to All-State teams and three tailbacks, Jesse Walker (1989), Lamar Patterson (1996) and Ron Spears (2007) gained over 2000 yards in one season.
“My only regret is that we did not get this town to Ford Field. The teams, the school community and our fans deserved that,” said Robb.
