Dental Practice Partners with Clinic, Patients Receive Care
With a successful event under their belt, the staff Woodland Family Dentistry has big plans in store for future endeavors.

A news release:
On Friday, Nov. 8, the dental team at Woodland Family Dentistry hosted their first of many “Day of Service” for patients of Hope Dental Clinic.
Patients, who had received initial treatment at Hope, between the ages of 16 and 55, were able to continue receiving the care they needed. Services provided include hygiene, impressions and even operative care, such as dental fillings.

“It was an extremely rewarding experience because we felt so appreciated.” said Dr. Jennifer McFinton.
Hope Dental Clinic, located in Ypsilanti, has been providing free dental care to those in need for more than 20 years. Due to the overwhelming amount of people in need of dental care, partnerships with local dental practices help even more people receive the care they need.

“Hope accepts new patients about every two months, but due to the overwhelming need for dental care, we are not able to respond to the literally hundreds of people calling,” said Becky Lewis, Coordinator of Hope Dental Clinic.
This is not the first time the practice has lent a helping hand to the dental clinic—throughout the month of November patients were encouraged to participate in the ‘Food Pantry Care & Share.’ The drive collected boxes full of household items and canned goods that were donated to the clinic.
What’s in store for future efforts at Woodland Family Dentistry? The practice plans to host a “Day of Service” every six months for Hope Dental Clinic patients. In order to increase the number of patients, they intend to establish a recruitment team with the clinic, and are even addressing the transportation barrier — many patients do not have cars and are unable to get to the dental practice.
Currently, Woodland Family Dentistry is participating in the Michigan Dental Association’s “Take a Bite Out of Cancer” campaign. Through the end of November, patients have the opportunity to become part of the international bone marrow registry – and potentially help save a life – by submitting a simple self-administered oral swab right there at the office.
