Dementia Capable Care: An Innovative Approach for Persons Living with Alzheimer's and Related Dementias

Statistics released in October 2012 show that there are currently 36 million people worldwide who are living with some form of Alzheimer’s or related dementia. Projections indicate this number will increase to 2 billion people by 2050. Although these numbers may appear daunting, it is encouraging to know there is a great deal of research and effort being put forth to ensure that persons with dementia can live positive, safe, and meaningful lives in a variety of settings.

At this workshop, the presenter will provide you with:

  • An over-view of the Dementia Capable Care approach to caring for persons with Alzheimer’s and related dementias;

  • An understanding of how to incorporate the Dementia Capable Care approach to ensure optimal independence, safety, and health in all living environments;

  • The benefits of focusing on your Best Ability to Function in all daily living activities;

  • Information regarding the benefits of the full team approach using this model of care; and

  • An understanding of how to receive a standardized cognitive assessment to determine if you and/or your loved one would benefit from this approach to care.

At the conclusion of the workshop, tours will be available upon request.
