There are a variety of roles that contribute to the Au Pair program. Understanding everyone’s role will help to clarify confusion and make everyone feel more comfortable.
Department of State (DOS) – The DOS oversees all of the Au Pair Agencies. They set the rules and regulations for the program and they audit each agency every year to make sure all rules are being followed.
Headquarters (HQ) – The Go Au Pair headquarters office is near Salt Lake City, Utah. Go Au Pair is responsible for ensuring that all of the federally regulated program rules are followed. Go Au Pair is the sponsor for all of the Au Pair’s visas.

International Representatives (IR) – The IRs interview, verify, and approve Au Pairs for their position as a live-in nanny in the US.

Host Families (HF) –Families provide full room and board, a weekly stipend, and up to $500 towards education tuition in exchange for quality childcare and light housekeeping. HFs are responsible for interviewing and selecting their Au Pair to find a mutual match that they are happy with.
Au Pairs (AP) – All Au Pairs have gone through an extensive application process with interviews, background checks, verification of experience, references, and much more. They must be 18-26 years old when they first enter the US, they must have previous experience, and they must speak English. Au Pairs can share their culture while providing up to 45 hours of childcare each week (up to 30 hours for part-time Au Pairs) and light housekeeping. Au Pairs are also required to take college courses and attend cultural events.
Local Area Representative (LAR) – All LARs live within 60 minutes of each of each Host Family. The LAR recruits new host families, visits Host Families prior to approval for the Au Pair program, conducts an orientation after the Au Pair arrives, ensures compliance with the DOS regulations, and provides ongoing support through monthly contacts and local events.
