The Saline Hornets baseball team had its offense explode early in game one of a double header against the Tecumseh Indians. The Hornets took game one 14-7; the second game was called with one out in the top of the seventh due to failing light. It was called with the score tied at one.
The early game saw Saline jump out to an early lead built off solid hitting. As a team, the Hornets racked up 14 singles, two triples and a home run. Tim Bruley had three singles and a triple along with four RBIs and Derek Owings had two singles and a home run while driving in four. Nick Ostrander went three innings and gave up no run on two hits while walking one and striking out one. The Indians battled back against Saline’s middle relief, but Brandon Krebs came in with two outs in the fourth and stopped the rally. Krebs went three and a third innings, allowing one run on one hit with three strikeouts.
“I thought we didn’t try to do too much. We hit a lot of balls the other way. I thought we had some good discipline at the plate; we stayed off a few pitches up in the zone,” said head coach Scott Theisen.

The nightcap was a pitchers battle, with each team getting solid efforts from their starters. Saline’s Will Goeman went five innings, giving up one run on two hits. Goeman struck out eight and only walked two. Offensively, the Hornets only mustered two hits; Ostrander doubled in the second inning and Andrew Valentine singled him home two batters later. The Indians tied the game at one in the fourth, and the game was called while Saline was batting in the seventh due to failing light.
“I thought the pitchers on both sides did a nice job. We’ve said all along that if we can get Krebs and Goeman consistant than we’re going to be a lot stronger team. Today, they took another step forward, and that’s huge for us,” said Theisen.
