Hornets Soccer Looks to Rebound after Disappointing 2010 Season

After an injury-plagued season last year, the men's soccer team is ready to compete in 2011.

Last year did not go as well as the Saline Hornets men’s soccer team would have hoped.  Badgered by injuries, the team had a mediocre season that culminated with an early end.  This year, they look to improve on their record and post-season performance.

“I think they got unlucky last year with some injuries and that got them off to a rocky start.  I want them to bring back some confidence to the program,” said head coach Dana Restrick.

Leading the team this year are the four captains.  Seniors Luke Collins, Mark Sulavik and Eric Williams and junior Andrew Prince have over ten years of varsity soccer experience between them and will help the team on both halves of the field.

“Andrew is a great player with a great soccer brain.  Luke is a great defender and leader.  Mark is probably the most physical and hard-working player we have.  Eric is an all-around great player, as well as the last player to experience going far in the post season,” said Restrick.

Saline has two solid keepers in goal.  Kyler Jacobs is a senior that is new to the program, and Liam Foster is in his second year on varsity as a junior.  Both players are capable in net and confident on the field.  Both keepers will be helped by some strong defenders, including Collins and senior Sam Gregory.

The offense looks to be powered by some younger legs.  Sophomores Rohan Garg and Ryan Gauche bring a strong pace to the offense, and senior Eddie Mussi has excellent foot skills that will help keep defenses on their toes.

“Rohan is new to varsity, but can outthink a defense.  On the outside, Ryan and Eddie have the ability to get behind the defense,” said Restrick.
