Hornets Sting Maples

Saline sweeps past Adrian in girl's tennis.

The Saline Hornets used their greater experience to power past the Adrian Maples Tuesday night in girl’s tennis.  Saline swept Adrian 8-0 and dominated both singles and doubles play.

“Everyone has an idea of what they want to work on when you play an opponent that you should beat.  You try to work on some stuff so you’re not flat when you play stronger teams,” said head coach Andrew BeDell.

The Hornets singles’ matches were strong, aggressive performances on all accounts.  Mary Hanna won her competition 6-0, 6-0.  Jen Ho also out-performed her opponent 6-0, 6-0, as did Shanna Cooper.  Darby Molloy swept her Maple foe 6-0, 6-0 as she continues to rebound from her concussion.

Saline’s doubles’ teams also overpowered Adrian.  Haley Breedveld and Heather Vogt won 6-0, 6-2, while Kaitlin and Margaret Sheets swept their match 6-0, 6-0.  Catherine Bernard and Allie Horwood won their sets 6-2, 6-1.  Julia Prisby and Lauren Rasmussen rounded out the day for Saline with a 6-0, 6-0.

The Hornets used Tuesday’s match to work on specific parts of their game, like hitting the ball deep and making first serves.  Saline’s girls are gearing up for upcoming Regionals, as well as some top ten competition in dual meets.

“We have a quad this weekend, and some good competition coming up.  We practice really hard.  You play how you practice, and we’ve been practicing hard.  We have a little momentum going, but you have to keep it rolling; not too high, not too low, just keep it on a level,” said BeDell.

The Lady Hornets continue their season by travelling to Ypsilanti on Wednesday, May 11.
