Hornets Swarm over Trojans

Saline's offensive aggression kept Monroe on their heels all game.

The Saline Hornets traveled to Monroe and took care of business against a plucky Trojans team. Aggressive offensive play kept Monroe on the defensive all night, drawing late whistles and earning their 3-0 shutout victory Thursday night.

The Hornets got off to an electric start, scoring two goals in the first ten minutes of the game. Kristina Veal started Saline’s offense with her first goal at the 35:54 mark, and Emilee Kaminski added her goal three minutes later, at 32:59. The Hornets stayed in Monroe’s zone for most of the half, but were unable to put any more past the Trojan keeper; they went into the half up 2-0.

“There’s no way to describe a player like Emilee. She’s very, very special.  She’s the type of player that she’s so good, she doesn’t have to give 100% effort, but she does.  She could be looking forward to her Division I college career, but she’s not, she’s focused and here for the team,” said head coach Dana Restrick.

After the break, Saline kept up the offensive pressure.  Veal added her second goal at the 34:35 mark, pushing the Hornets ahead by three.  Monroe’s frustration began to become evident, as two players (unsporting behavior) and the Trojan head coach (dissent) all received yellow cards during the second half. Michelle Pattullo received a yellow card for Saline in the second half; Alli Cope had received one late in the first half for the Hornets as well.  Both were also for unsporting behavior.

“It’s a physical game; I don’t think any of our players are out to hurt anybody. If we did, there would be a chat, but in this case, they were a bit call happy, so not much of a discussion,” said Restrick.
