Lady Hornets Unable to Find Rhythm On Volleyball Court
The team dropped two of three matches at the Saline Quad.

The Saline Hornets girls’ volleyball team struggled to mesh at the Saline Quad Wednesday night. They lost the opening two matches against the Lakeland Eagles and Novi Wildcats before rallying to beat Milford in their final match of the night.
“We finished on a strong note, which we need to remember, but we know we have a lot of work to do,” said head coach Lisa Shea.
Saline’s day started sloppily against the Eagles. They lost the first game 25-15 after a small rally, but could not finish. The second game, a 25-14 loss, started strongly for the Hornets, but they seemed to have an inability to soundly strike the ball and fell apart down the stretch. Lakeland took the match two games to none.

The Hornet’s day would not get any better against Novi. In the first game, they again started fast and took an early lead, but were unable to hold it and lost 25-16. The team started game two completely out of rhythm and fell behind big. Saline rallied, but still dropped the game 25-18.
Between the second and third match, the girls got together and took control of the remainder of their evening. The Milford Mavericks were the recipient of their displeasure at earlier performances, as Saline won the first game 25-23 and the second 25-21 to take their only match win of the day. Serving led the Hornets during the last match, and Saline had to earn a win against a battling Milford team.

“Something we worked on from the get-go tonight was working as a team and taking care of each other. We started doing it better and better as the night went on. We were better communicators in the third match,” said Shea.
Mackenzie Shand led Saline with 15 digs, 11 blocks and 12 kills. Marissa Owen had 16 kills. Jessi Marks had eight kills.
