Milan Big Reds Motor Past Mason
A judge's decision in the opening race was only thing between Milan taking first in every event.
ERIE — The Big Reds used their swimmers in races they are unaccustomed to, but still managed to pull off a 108-78 win at Erie Mason Thursday night.
A malfunctioning pad and judge’s decision in the opening event was the only think keeping Milan from sweeping the events.
“Diving was huge for us tonight. Not just that they took 1, 2, 3 but they dove really well for us. All of our divers are freshmen and sophomores,” said head coach Dan Heikka.

Milan spent the night leading races, dominating diving and having an overall solid performance in Mason’s pool. Even switching people out of their strengths did not seem to slow down the Big Reds, something Coach Heikka is happy about.
“We mixed it up quite a bit. The guy who won the backstroke is actually my butterflier and he made the state cut. My breaststroker who won tonight is actually my backstroker,” said Heikka. “What I enjoyed a lot tonight was to see some of our younger guys. The guy who got fourth in the 500 is a sophomore and it’s nice for him to contribute tonight, score some points, and help out in the meet. He had a nice, solid time tonight.”

Dylan Miller won the 500-yard freestyle at 5:17.83 and Christian Dillion pulled fourth at 6:22.13.
