Milan Swimmers Break Two Pool Records in Win Versus Lincoln

Senior members of Big Reds shine in last meet at home.

The Milan Big Reds seniors came out strong Tuesday for senior night in front of a big home crowd – opening the meet setting a pool record in the 200-yard medley relay.

Later in the evening they set a pool record in the 200-yard freestyle relay and Milan beat Lincoln 105-69.

“On both of those relays, three of those guys are seniors. They get to leave their legacy,” said head coach Dan Heikka.

Milan swam stronger earlier in the evening, going 1-2 in the 200-yard medley relay and winning every event until diving. Colby Williams took a strong second in diving behind Lincoln’s Samuel Edwards.

Once the meet was out of reach for Lincoln, Milan swimmers began competing outside of their normal events.

“[Tonight] was a chance for us to swim some guys in slightly different events. Oliver Smith won the (individual medley) and the 500 (yard freestyle). Freshman Sam Franklin usually swims behind Dylan Miller, so it was a nice chance for him tonight to showcase what he capable of. Dylan Shearer had his best time in the 50-yard freestyle,” said Heikka.

Some swimmers still competed in their strengths, such as Tyler Fisher, who tied his own pool record with a 54.36 time in the 100-yard butterfly and Dylan Shearer, who swam a 1:00.09 breaststroke, beating his nearest opponent by more than 11 seconds.
