The Milan Big Reds scored 37 of a possible 42 entrants on the way to winning the Southern Michigan Interscholastic Swim League meet at Tecumseh on Friday and Saturday. Milan won the meet with a final score of 370 points; the Adrian Maples took second with a score of 325, followed by Tecumseh (305), Chelsea (242) and Bedford (150).
Milan topped the scoreboard by having numerous swimmers score, often scoring four places in individuals’ races and two in relays. Their lowest top-time finish was a third place in the 500 yard freestyle, but Milan still scored four swimmers in the race.
“These guys worked real hard for this. I’ve been preaching from day one that if we were going to win this, we were going to need to be four deep, score four guys as many times as we could and we did. I’m really proud of them,” said head coach Dan Heikka.
