Milan's Horton Signs with Lourdes College

The Milan standout will play volleyball and pursue a degree in business.

Milan’s Amelia Horton signed her letter of intent to attend Lourdes College in Ohio on Wednesday.  She will play volleyball for the Grey Wolves.

Horton, a 5-foot-9-iunch middle hitter for the Big Reds, can see herself as staying in the middle or playing on the right side for Lourdes. Her new coach sees that fit for her, too.

“We were looking for someone that could play both positions, give us a little depth on the right as well as the middle. We also liked her athleticism and her skill level at this point,” said Lourdes head coach Greg Reitz.

Horton plans on pursuing a degree in business.  She is excited because business is one of Lourdes strengths academically.  She is also looking forward to seeing the difference between athletics at a high school level versus college.

“I look forward to the experience [of playing volleyball in college] and being able to hang out with the other girls.  I think they’ll help keep me on track for my academics, since you have to go to study table,” said Horton.

Concordia, Indiana Tech and Marygrove in Detroit all recruited and offered athletic scholarships to Horton. She also had an academic scholarship offer to Heidelberg College in Ohio. She chose Lourdes because it was close enough to see her parents and siblings, but not "right down the road."
