Poindexter Signs Letter to Play for Siena Heights

Senior season still lies ahead of Poindexter.

Milan’s Chaz Poindexter signed a letter of intent Wednesday with Siena Heights College. He will play baseball for the Saints and pursue a degree in either criminal justice or nursing.

Poindexter, a the six-foot outfielder and pitcher for the Big Reds, will continue to prowl the outfield for Siena Heights. His pitching will go to the backburner, although he will continue to work on it as a backup option.

“[Pitching] is a secondary thing. We like to prepare our players for two positions in case of injury. He’s going to come in and help us in the outfield right away,” said Siena Heights head coach John Kolasinski.

Poindexter was a critical piece to Milan’s season last year and looks to continue that this year.  His junior season display of his talents and capability drew Siena Heights to him.

“He was All-League player last year, All-Region Monroe County and All-District.  He hit .467, hits for a lot of power and has tremendous speed.  He has all the tools to play at the next level,” said Big Reds baseball head coach Adam Gilles.

Poindexter is unsure of what major he plans on pursuing at Siena Heights. He is interested in either criminal justice or nursing and will decide after further investigation into the programs.

“I’m looking forward to the new level of competition. I mean, it’s college baseball, I’m excited,” said Poindexter.

Poindexter chose Siena Heights over Madonna University, which was also recruiting him.

Poindexter’s senior season has begun with early practices.
