Police Report: Man Stopped Driving Stolen Car

The following reports are from Saline Police Department records dated Jan. 17-24. Arrests to do not indicate conviction.

A 27-year-old Detroit man was arrested for driving with a suspended license and outstanding warrants Jan. 22.

At about 10:45 p.m., spotted a 1992 Buick traveling at a high rate of speed on Michigan Avenue and, after the vehicle turned on to South Industrial Drive without signaling, police caught up and pulled the driver over, according to police records.

The driver, who worked at a Saline manufacturing company, was operating with a suspended license and had four warrants for his arrest, according to the report. Police also discovered he was driving a vehicle that was reported stolen by a Romulus woman, whom he identified has his "baby momma," according to police.

The man told police that he bought the vehicle and registered it under his ex-girlfriend’s name because his license was suspended, according to police, and that the woman had reported the car stolen because she was upset with him after a fight.

Romulus Police confirmed the vehicle was stolen but also told Saline Police that, in the past, the woman had reported the vehicle stolen but did not want to prosecute once the vehicle was located.

The man posted $200 bond for a warrant, was advised on three warrants out of Detroit, and was issued a citation for driving with a suspended license, according to police. The vehicle was impounded.

The woman contacted police and said she gave the vehicle’s title to police. The vehicle was impounded.

Woman Arrested On Drunk Driving Charge

A 37-year-old Ypsilanti woman was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, driving with a suspended license and open transport on Jan. 19

At 8:30 p.m., police were alerted by an off-duty officer to a suspected drunk driver southbound on Maple Road, according to police records. The car was turning on to Clark Street but did not proceed with a green light and then turned wide and went into the oncoming lane, according to the report.

The off-duty officer followed the driver to the Sheffield condominiums. The on-duty officer arrived and spotted the vehicle still running and occupied by the woman, according to reports. During questioning, the woman told police she thought she was in Bellville or Ann Arbor. After field sobriety tests, the woman was arrested.

A preliminary breathalyzer test was conducted after she was arrested out of concern for her safety, according to police, and it recorded a blood alcohol content of .18, more than twice the legal limit of .08. An open bottle of whisky was located on the passenger seat and taken as evidence, according to police. A record check showed her license was suspended and an outstanding warrant out of the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department.

The vehicle was towed and license plate destroyed. She was transported to Saline Police Department where chemical tests showed a blood alcohol content of .17 and .18, according to the report. She was later released on a personal recognizance bond.

Mailbox Knocked Down By Vehicle

A Castlebury Street resident told police that a vehicle struck his mailbox and knocked it from its post at about 4 p.m. Jan. 19. The resident said he didn’t see the crash but that he heard it, according the police.

Man Arrested on Warrants

A 20-year-old Saline was arrested on two warrants out of Van Buren Township.

At 1 a.m. Sunday, police stopped a vehicle for having an obstructed license plate, according to police records.

The Saline man, a passenger in the vehicle, was turned over to Van Buren Township police.
