Rain Shortens Hornets Tennis Match
Slick courts prompt coaches to delay the finish of the match until a later date.
The Saline Hornets boys’ tennis team was looking good against the Skyline Eagles Wednesday afternoon, but Mother Nature had other plans for the day. Rain halted play before all the matches could be completed, and the two teams will have to decide on a date to finish the match. When the rain forced a stoppage, six of the nine matches had finished.
“We’ve had a lot of rain, so we haven’t had a lot of practice time, but we’re climbing back into it. Even though the guys dropped the opening sets in a couple matches, they’re coming on strong,” said head coach Andrew BeDell.
In singles play, Blake Ahadi finished off his opponent (6-0) (6-1), David Zick beat his competition (6-1) (6-0) and Will Heider completed his match (6-1) (6-2). Saline’s Karl Winsor and Skyline’s Ryan Jackson were still competing when rain stopped play. Winsor won the opening set (6-2), but dropped the following one (0-6); he was up in the final set (3-0).

The final doubles match had Saline’s Ryan Marcus and Mitch Manninen winning the opening set (7-6) and tied in the second (1-1).
“We’re being tough mentally. We know we can win, and we go about it one point at a time,” said BeDell.
