Saline Community Gathers For Retiring Principal
Sheila Light enjoyed an informal gathering with former students.
Current and former students of school in Saline gathered Wednesday night to spend some time with retiring principal Sheila Light. Parent Teachers Association members from this year and years past organized an ice cream social open to the community.
“We’ve got twenty gallons of ice cream,” said Amber Sotelo, former member of the Pleasant Ridge PTA, who has worked with Light for years. Ice cream sundaes were served by DECA volunteers from the high school, Emilie Godell and Kelsea Pelletier, both juniors.
“She was always at every event,” said Christine Rogers, parent of two kids now in middle and high school. “We’ve been here the whole four years for each of the kids."

“I remember being in the cafeteria and her (Light) eating with us,” said Celyn Rogers, now an eighth grader getting ready to transition to the high school next year.
Light took time to hug every child, young or older, who entered the room, and sat down to chat with families.

“She’s the best principal!” said Olivia Odum, a second grader at Pleasant Ridge.
Her family sat and chatted with Light about next year. The Odums will still have two students at Pleasant Ridge next year, and one at Heritage School. The oldest, Mikayla, said “She’s just awesome!”
A video compilation created by incoming PTA President Dawn Ducca played throughout the event. Former and current students, families and staff also had the opportunity to sign a giant poster for Light. Light’s last day with students is Friday.
