Season Preview: Milan Baseball Team Aims at Huron Title

The Big Reds brings back eight seniors and look to win the league.

The Milan Big Reds varsity boy’s baseball is gearing up for another strong season. They hope to improve on their second place finish in the Huron League during the 2009–10 season. They finished 26-8 overall and 11-3 in the league, second only to the Airport Jets.

“We always expect to be right in the mix of things in our league. We have a pretty competitive league, which is more than half of our district, so if you do well in your league, you should do pretty well in districts,” said head coach Adam Gilles.

The Big Reds bring back many familiar faces, including eight seniors. They are looking to improve on a first round exit in the district tournament, a game they dropped to New Boston Huron after blowing a 4-1 lead with one bad inning that contained five errors.

“We’re returning two All-Region players in Chaz Poindexter and Joe Dunn and one of our top pitchers in Jake Johnson. We have eight seniors and twelve pitchers, nobody that will blow you away, but we have guys that will throw strikes and are smart,” said Gilles.

The Big Reds play a double header at Plymouth High School on April 5.  The first game starts at 3:30 pm.
