Season Preview: Milan Girls' Track Team Looks To Carry On Winning Ways
The Big Reds want to repeat as Huron League champs.
The Milan Big Reds girl’s track and field team began workouts for what looks to be another powerful run at the Huron League championship. hey won the league last year and qualified for the team state meet.
“Right now, we’re a very young team with a very rich tradition in that we’ve had 35 years of continuous winning season and won the last three league titles. So our number one goal is to repeat as league champions,” said head coach Steve Porter.
Leading the Big Reds will be Grace Albers, Tara Lewis, Tess Odegard and Emily Weber in distance running, along with Jealissa Kitchen in sprints. The team is returning state qualifying relays and a few individual qualifiers, but lost some for unspecified reasons as well.

“We’re decent in the sprints, field events, distance and middle distance; we’ve got some good hurdlers coming back. We’re a pretty well balance team, but we have to, as coaches, make all that gel. We definitely want to get our relays back to our state meet and get some other state qualifiers,” said Porter.
The team will open the season with an indoor meet at Hillsdale on March 31 at 5 p.m..
