SHS Girls Swim and Dive Team Make A Bumper To Bumper Splash
Cars and trucks line up to raise funds for Saline's swimming ladies.
The 2nd Annual Saline High School Girls Swim and Dive Team Car Wash fundraiser was held Saturday, Aug. 20th at the Saline Fire Station. Parent volunteers and a swarm of Lady Hornets rinsed, washed and dried cars, trucks, a motorcycle, a Saline Police car, an ambulance and No Bull tow trucks, to raise money for the team.
The event raised over 1,600.
John Czyrka, parent of swimmer Cristina Czyrka, talked about the importance of the car wash location and being a part of the community.

“We started here last year, it (Saline Fire Station) is really a key part of Saline, so it is the perfect place,” Czyrka said.
Nikki Flynn, a senior this year and one of the team’s captains, has been swimming competitively for six years. Her best time in the 100 yard freestyle is 51.74 seconds.

“I like to do sprints,” she said. “Hopefully I’ll make it even better time this year.”
Flynn explained where the funds from the car wash will go.
“All of the money supports the team,” she said. “It pays for swim caps, officials, pool time and any other team expenses we might have during the season.”
Last year the team made approximately $1,200 from the car wash and the team hoped to do the same or more this year.
The Hornets first competition will be held Sept. 1 at Huron High School, followed by the Spartan Invitational Sept. 10. Their first home meet will be against Tecumseh and Grosse Ile on Sept. 15 at 6pm. See their entire season here.
The event was also supported by Country Market and Benito's, which provided refreshments and food.
Czyrka also thanked the for allowing the team to use its facilities for the car wash.
