Curious about Saline Area Players’ show Silent Night: The Real(ish) Story that plays this week December 5-8? Never heard of it? That’s because it is an original production that tells the story of how the well-known beloved Christmas carol came into being with TONS of embellishment. This is definitely not a dry history lesson. Kara Cardella, who has skillfully adapted other stories for the stage, brings the facts to life with some colorful characters.
Here’s what a few cast members have said:

Sarah Hamann (one of the youngest cast members): I think it’s good because it’s a holy song, and it has a mischief-maker in it!

Tommy Hamann (her brother): I think audiences will like it because it’s entertaining for all ages, it’s funny, and has a hard-working cast.
Tess Carichner also notes that the music is “well-rehearsed.” She says “the characters are well-defined and there is a plot twist that you are not expecting!”
Other highlights? The appearance of random mice that seem to show up everywhere throughout the play. The antics of a crusty housekeeper who has to deal with breaking in the new fun-loving priest. A quirky organ repairman. A surprise new member to the choir. And mostly, a wonderful story that is perfect for family.
