DTE Energy employees demonstrated their creativity and generosity in the company’s 7th Annual Art from the HeART silent auction benefitting The Arbor Hospice Foundation. Employees created and donated more than 50 pieces of original art, ranging from jewelry, paintings, photographs and stained glass, and all were available for sale to the highest bidder. Together, they raised $5,020 to benefit Arbor Hospice’s art therapy program for grieving children.
The pieces available for bid included a four-piece canvas painting created by the children of DTE employees on “Take Your Child to Work Day.” The painting featured a tree with leaves made of the children’s fingerprints.
“Through their active and enthusiastic involvement in this program, DTE Energy employees have shown their compassion for young people experiencing grief and an understanding of the importance of this program,” said Heidi Grix, Executive Director of The Arbor Hospice Foundation. “Their support allows us to continue to offer art therapy programs, which have proven to be so helpful to children.”

Children feel loss deeply and process their grief in different ways. Arbor Hospice’s art therapy helps children express through art what they may not be able to put into words. Arbor Hospice’s art therapy includes the creation of garden stones, memory boxes, sculptures, picture frames, photo pillowcases, birdhouses, dreamcatchers, jewelry and drawings.
Since the first Art from the HeART silent auction in 2007, DTE Energy has donated more than $25,000 to The Arbor Hospice Foundation.
