We all know where our Downtowns are, but do we know what they are and why they matter?  Downtown is the economic engine, the big stage, the core of the community. Our Downtown tells us who we are and who we were, and how the past has shaped us. We learn about our past, explore our culture, and discover our identity in our Downtown. Our Downtowns are the places of shared memory where people still come together to live, to build on a dream, to work, to make memories, and to be entertained.*

Caring, industrious and innovative people make vibrant downtowns. Saline is rich in caring individuals who continue to give of their time and talents to better our community and realize that Downtown Matters because:

Downtown Matters.  Downtown is a source of community identity, culture, history and pride.
Downtown Matters.  A strong Downtown attracts new businesses, industry, residents, jobs and a diverse work force to the region.
Downtown Matters.  A strong Downtown increases property values throughout the community, brings people together and enhances the quality of life for all Saline residents.

Downtown Matters carries more meaning than just a catchy slogan to Saline Main Street.  We have adopted the theme to use as our Volunteer Recruitment and Giving Campaign initiative.

A fundamental goal of the initiative is to bring a focus to all individuals, businesses and organizations that play a critical role in creating a downtown that matters, the underlining service and impact Saline Main Street volunteers work to achieve. Acting together; individual community members, businesses, organizations and government entities throughout the Saline area can become the key investors of a sustaining, alive, attractive, and impactful Downtown Saline. Together we can build the standard of living and quality of life we all want to reflect and enjoy! In the coming weeks, you’ll hear why Downtown Matters from members of our community…stay tuned!
