The Board of Trustees introduced for the first reading an ordinance on the discharging of firearms in York Township. The ordinance would make it unlawful for any person to discharge a firearm on public or private property, with five exceptions: the protection of life, law enforcement officers performing their duties, legal hunting, at recognized and permitted sports clubs, and target practice on property outlined within the ordinance.
The ordinance, which was only up for first reading, had two amendments made to it by the board, adding a third allowable zone for target practice and increasing the number of allowed guests from two to five. The opening of the ordinance passed with five board members voting aye, one nay and one absent. Jill Hargrove was the lone dissent and Helen Neill was absent.
