York Township Set to Join Countywide Transit Board after Public Hearing
York resident Bill Lavery is in position to take the South Middle District seat.

The York Township Board of Trustees voted unanimously to join the countywide transit board at its October meeting.
The board held a public hearing during its regular monthly meeting to discuss the transit board that is being proposed for Washtenaw County.
While not heavily attended, the figures that did speak up asked pointed questions to the board.

Resident John Stanowski said he was concerned about the direct impact that the proposals would have on York Township. He said he was worried that the citizens would end up helping to pay for transit that would not come directly to the township to assist its population.
Supervisor Joe Zurawski replied that the new transit board has been set up to asnwer questions about service and funding.

After the public hearing, the board voted unanimously to join the countywide transit board.
In joining, York Township allowed the leading candidate to continue his attempt to take a seat on the board. Bill Lavery is the candidate being put forward by the a district that also includes Saline, Milan and Lodi.
If, after the transit board decides on a plan that does not meet with the approval of its members, communities will have 30 days to opt out of the agreement. .
