SEATTLE, WASHINGTON – (06/05/2013) – Ypsilanti Area Jaycee Jennifer Vroom was honored by the United States Junior Chamber with an Outstanding Personal Development Project award for her Ypsi Play Date project at their Annual Meeting held here on June 5-8.
"I will forever be grateful to the Ypsilanti [Area] Jaycees as I found my husband through the Jaycees,"commented Vroom. "I first enjoyed participating in the Jaycees as a single individual, then participating in activities with my husband. When we had our first child it seemed as if something was missing."
Ypsi Play Date was a 12-month project Vroom conducted with the Ypsilanti Area Jaycees in 2012. Play Date involved a different activity each month that members and their young children could take part in, with each helping to develop a new skill for each child. It also served as a social event for members where the children came first.
"Many [of our] projects were not geared toward participation as a family," Vroom continued, "particularly a family with a young child. Running Ypsi Play date allowed me to continue to participate as a Ypsi Jaycee while also involving my husband and young child."
Ypsi Play Date was previously honored by the Michigan Jaycees for Outstanding Chapter Activity project of the 3rd Trimester of 2012 in February.
“I'm proud of our chapter, its members, and all of our accomplishments over this past year,” said 2012 Local President Kristen Mishler. “Our project chairpersons were committed to improving the lives of themselves, their fellow members, and those in the Ypsilanti community. Ypsi Play Date definitely lived up to this commitment.”
The Ypsilanti Area Jaycees is a local chapter of the United States Junior Chamber, which represents more than 18,200 young adults in over 680 chapters across the country. Jaycee chapters focus on empowering its members to create positive change in their communities and in themselves by developing personal and professional leadership skills.
