SHELBY TOWNSHIP, MI — A Shelby Township man is facing life in prison after fatally shooting his stepfather last week, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office.

The shooting happened at 4:23 p.m. last Thursday at a home in the 48000 block of Sandifer Court in the Dequindre Estates Mobile Home Park near Dequindre and Hamlin roads in Shelby Township, according to police.

Trevin Beemer, 38, was charged with multiple charges, including first-degree premeditated murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, interfering with an electronic communications device causing injury or death and several firearms-related offense. He was also charged as a second-offense habitual offender.

Beemer was placed in jail and denied bond. His next court date is scheduled for July 21.

If convicted, he faces up to life in prison.

Prosecutors said Beemer "forcibly" accessed a gun case to grab a gun. He used the weapon to fatally shoot his stepfather inside the home during a domestic fight, prosecutors said.

Beemer then tried to remove a witness from the home and prevent the witness from calling police to report the shooting, prosecutors said.

"This case involves allegations of an extraordinarily violent act committed within the victim's own home. We extend our condolences to the victim's loved ones and will continue to seek justice on behalf of the community," Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido said.
