Annual auto show drives student interest in engineering, design
Annual car show expands to include all Macomb County students

What started as a small business outreach with one Auto Company and four cars is now impacting students throughout Macomb County.
The “Big 3” auto companies recently brought their latest concept cars to secondary students in Macomb County to help drive interest in engineering and design careers.
In addition, students were able talk to the designers and engineers who bring the cars from vision to reality.
More than 500 UCS students were able to view approximately 30 cars were on display at the expo center at Macomb Community College.
In addition to having cars on display, the automakers presented for three sessions for students:
- Fiat Chrysler Automobiles presented a module on sketching.
- Ford Motor Company hosted a module on production design.
- General Motors offered a module on clay/digital modeling.
The Macomb Auto Show has its roots in Utica Community Schools in 2006, when now retired Malow Junior High School teacher Harry Istok brought General Motors engineers into the school with four cars and talked to 100 students.
This year’s auto show is impacting about 700 students from around Macomb County.
