Annual festival in Utica Community Schools will feature more than 5,000 pieces of student art work

Utica Community Schools will present its annual K-12 Fine Arts Festival March 20 through March 23, located at Ewell Elementary at 23 Mile and Shelby roads.

The festival will feature nearly 5,000 pieces of student artwork.

“The annual showcase allows our entire community to view and celebrate the quality of our student art,” Dr. Christine Johns said. “It is a unique opportunity to see the incredible work and talents of UCS students from every school and grade level.”

Gallery hours for the free event will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 20; 1 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 21 and 22; and from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 23.

An opening reception will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 20. A free shuttle to the reception will be available from Switzer and Wiley elementaries and Eisenhower High School.

Students will display both two-dimensional and three-dimensional pieces of artwork, which include drawings in pencil, pen, marker, oil pastel, soft chalk pastel, ink, mixed media, and paintings in tempera, acrylic and oil.

Guests will see traditional and digital photography, short films, Public Service Announcements and video game design projects. Art will also include fibers ranging in functional fashion to weavings, relief and in-the-round sculptures, as well as, hand built to wheel-thrown ceramic vessels and pieces.

More than 10,000 patrons annually visit what is now one of the region’s largest student art show.
