Bus driver in Utica Community Schools honored for safety

Driver honored for second straight year

Utica Community Schools bus driver Charles Weir has once again been honored for his commitment to safe transportation for students.

Weir earned first place in Macomb County – and top ten in the State of Michigan – in the annual Michigan School Bus Driving Championship, sponsored by the Michigan Association of Pupil Transportation.

The competition tests a driver on bus operations, procedures, and the Motor Vehicle Code. Drivers are also rated on judgement, reaction and response to real-world simulations. Weir also participated in the wheel driving skills rodeo.

Last year, Weir was named among the top four drivers and “Rookie of the Year” at the state competition.
