Comedy for a Cause at Knights of Columbus
The Knights of Columbus partner with the Shelby Township Lions Club to host a benefit for the Michigan Eye Bank.
The Shelby Township Lions Club hosted a benefit Saturday night at the on Utica Road. In cooperation with Mark Ridley's Comedy Castle in Royal Oak, comedians Bill Bushart and Norm Stulz entertained about 150 guests to help support the Michigan Eye Bank.
Shelby Lions Club president Dave Kady said the organization contributes to several charities throughout the year, including Leader Dogs for the Blind, Lions Visually Impaired Youth Camp and Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Saturday's benefit contributed to the Michigan Eye Bank, an organization dedicated to the restoration of sight. "Tonight is all about the Michigan Eye Bank," Kady said.
Community engagement associate Alex Teska offered helpful information and recruited donors at the benefit. Teska has been working with the Michigan Eye Bank for the past four months, promoting its mission and educating people about the benefits of donating.

The night began with cocktails and a buffet-style dinner. Dinner included bread, salad, pasta and sausage. In addition, guests enjoyed a dessert table of coffee, chocolate cake and cream puffs.
After dinner, guests were entertained by two well-known comedians. Bill Bushart opened the show. Bushart was named Best Local Comic 2010 by the Detroit Metro Times. You can often find him performing around the metro Detroit area and abroad. Headlining the night was comedian Norm Stulz. Stulz has been performing stand-up since 1981.

The night ended with music and dancing. D.J. Jeff Bailey played a wide range of musical genres for the guests to enjoy. Bailey has been helping at Lions Club events for the past five years.
