Duncan students flip over reading

Students wrap up reading month with celebration

The students at Duncan Elementary wrapped up their month long Rockin’ & Reading activities in a big way.

Earlier in the month, each Duncan student made their own “Backstage Pass” during Literature Adventure Day. This special pass allowed them access to a realistic backstage area that featured some rock and roll history along with some extra-comfortable seating.

Because the Duncan kids worked up quite an appetite after Rockin’ & Reading all month long, Chris Cakes came out with their legendary flying flapjacks for a Pancakes & Picasso family night.

That’s right, Pancakes & Picasso. Flapjacks and fine art!

Last year’s Flying Flapjack Family Fun Festival was such a hit (as was the annual art show) so the folks at Duncan thought, “Why not combine them?”

Not only did the Duncan Explorers enjoy eating all those flapjacks, but they had a blast watching their teachers compete in an eating contest, too.

The fun didn’t stop there. Other Duncan teachers who were not fans of eating flapjacks fast went head to head in a flapjack catching contest.

All of this flapjack foolery wasn’t just for fun, though. Proceeds from this annual family fun night go towards funding next year’s March is Reading Month festivities.
