“Eagle Pride” takes flight at 2018 Eisenhower graduation

The Eisenhower High School class of 2018 promised to draw on “Eagle pride” as they begin to shape their future.

“We are the class of 2018. We are the Eisenhower Eagles,” said speaker Jackson Kosnik. “We are prepared, we are brave, and most importantly, we are family.”

Commencement speaker Hannah Kadets based her message on an quote from author Napoleon Hill - “If you can’t do great things, do small things in a great way.”

“I think this means that we should not just search for our crowning achievement, not focus on any sole event,” she said. “Rather, we should live a collection of small endeavors, each done with a focused purpose and Eagle Pride.”
Dr. Christine Johns remarked that this was the first graduating class to be born and lived their lives completely in the 21st century, noting the changes they have experienced in 18 short years.
“Through the lenses of experience, I hope you continue to marvel at this world and the endless possibilities that are before you,” she said.
President Gene Klida encouraged graduates to use the character they displayed in high school throughout their future.
“Follow your passions, be original, follow your convictions and most of all, be relentless in your pursuits,” she said.
Principal Jared McEvoy spoke to the character of the students, who went out their way to welcome him for his first year as a high school principal.
“For that I was so grateful, but looking back it is no surprise because it was indicative of the type of people you are and the character and personality that you possess,” he said. “And don’t ever change. Always be the amazing, caring, outgoing, and driven people that you are now.”
McEvoy also shared the accomplishments of the Eisenhower Class of 2018:

• Sixty four valedictorians and two Salutatorian.
• ­Ten Macomb County All-Academic Team members
• Five of the 20 members of the Macomb County All Academic Dream Team are Eisenhower Eagles
• Three tional Merit Finalists
• Nearly 160 were IKE’s Brightest Academic Scholars, which means they have maintained a grade point average of 3.67 or above for all four years.
• Nearly 90 Sstudents are UCS AP Scholars having earned a 3.67 GPA in four or more Advanced Placement Classes.
• More than 160 seniors are members of the National Honor Society
• More than 250 seniors possess a cumulative grade point average of a 3.5 or higher and are graduating with honors
• Almost 100 of these students are Presidential Award winners having a 3.5 GPA or higher and having earned a 1260 or higher on the SAT or at least a 26 on the ACT test.
• Ninety-five percent of students will pursue higher education. Our students will attend universities in our state and places all around the country.
