Shelby Parks & Recreation holds an ice cutting and ice harvest history event at Burgess-Shadbush Nature Center.
You'll learn about the days preceding refrigeration, how ice was long cut from lakes, ponds and rivers and stored for use in summer. Everyone will then travel to Holland Ponds to cut out blocks of ice (weather permitting) using old-fashioned tools. You'll also see a display on ice cutting.
Cost is $2 for adults, and $1 for children age 4 and up. Call 586-323-2478 if you have questions.
