Flickinger fourth graders are showing True Grit.
The students recently held an assembly where they showed how they show Grit every day:
- Give it your all
“To give it your all means to not give up, think about it, and use as many strategies as possible," said Emily Norris." I can give it my all in school by taking my time, giving it my best effort, and writing neatly so I don’t have to redo anything. You can go slowly so you don’t miss anything or make an easy mistake.” - Redo if necessary
"“Redo if necessary means to me that if you mess up or make a mistake you can redo it if it’s necessary.," said Carly Sumner. "So if you do not get a question right, then you can redo it. There’s nothing wrong with redoing it! All in all, it’s about trying again.” - Ignore giving up
“When I think of the 'I' in GRIT, it reminds me of Dreambox. Sometimes I want to give up because of a very hard problem," said Bradley Beauvais. "I ignore that feeling of giving up though. I take a break to refresh my brain, and then I go back to the problem and get back to work.” - Take time to do it right
"“When I think of the 'T' in GRIT, I remember when I was little. I used to rush," Ellie Robbins. "I realized that everyone else was getting better grades, and their papers were a lot neater. I asked my teacher why, and she said don’t rush, and take time to do it right. So, I tried it out. I took my time, and I wrote neater, and I got a good grade.”
