Ford II Falcons soar as members of the Class of 2015

If life is like a game, life for the Class of 2015 at Henry Ford II High School can be compared to the game known as Jenga.

“The (Jenga) advertisement claims it is the classic block stacking, stack-crashing game and asks how we will stack up against the law of gravity,” said commencement speaker Kelly Christiansen. “I would argue that we, the Class of 2015, have stacked up against the grave law of reality.”

She finished: “Jenga asks if your hand is steady enough to pull out that one last block before the tower collapses and claims, if it is, you’ll win Jenga. But I know you have already won Jenga. You are strong and talented and resourceful and kind and can do great things in this world.”

Nearly 450 graduates represented the Ford II Class of 2015.

Principal Kenneth Cucchi noted the accomplishments of the graduates, including 19 valedictorians, one salutatorian, two students on the Macomb County All-Academic Team, 74 Falcon scholars, 53 Advanced Placement scholars, 107 members of the National Honor Society and $3.6 million in scholarships.

Other stage speakers celebrated the accomplishments of the graduates and their ability to meet their goals.

Referencing a current movie, Superintendent Dr. Christine Johns told graduates they have the energy, character and power to make their “Tomorrowland” a better place.

“You are dreamers, and dreamers stick together,” Dr. Johns said. “Dreamers turn ideas into action.”

Board of Education Vice President Gene Klida told the graduates their Utica Community Schools background makes each senior “unquestionably ready for the choices you will have going forward.”

“In an era when it has become so easy for young people to focus on individual needs and wants, the Class of 2015 chose to leave no one behind,” said Principal Kenneth Cucchi. “The cohesiveness, camaraderie and caring this class has demonstrated is something for which they will long be remembered.”
