Ford II students mean business

School's DECA team experiences record-breaking weekend at state competition

Henry Ford II DECA students experienced a record-breaking weekend with more than 30 top awards at an annual state conference.

The school's DECA chapter finished with 27 top honors and nine overall finalists at the State Career Conference March 11-13 at Cobo Hall.

"Our students represented Ford II High School well," said Jennifer DeClerck, a marketing teacher at Henry Ford II High School. "Their hard work and dedication showed at the competition."

DECA is an international student organization operating through schools to attract high school students to careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.

The state conference allowed DECA participants to meet with more than 500 business and community representatives and compete in around 40 events for a chance to represent Michigan DECA at the International Career Conference.

The following students were state champions and will be competing at the International Career Development Conference April 23-26 in Nashville, Tennessee.

-Dima Al-Najjar - Entrepreneurship Innovation Plan

-Emily DeYonker, Ashley McCoy, Daniella Rosales - Community Service Project

-Laura Frisbie, Allison Saigh, Nikki Sorgi - Financial Literacy Promotion Plan

-Trevor Groves, Connor Larson, Eric Remley - Sports and Entertainment Promotion Plan (top presentation medal)

-Michael Ishmail, Nick Vasseur - Sports and Entertainment Operations Research

-Anthony Juliano, Nick Schilkey - Sports and Entertainment Promotion Plan (top presentation medal and both received top test medals also)

-Brandon LaBonty, Joey Maiuri - Entrepreneurship Independent Business Plan

-Evan Leclerc, Logan Strohm, Zachary Waldorf - Financial Literacy Promotion Plan

-Abigail Kurian, Taylor Patyi - Public Relations Project

-Hannah Osantwoske - Entrepreneurship Promotion Plan

-Nina Rutkowski - Entrepreneurship Start-Up Business Plan

-Justin Walters - Advertising Campaign (top test and presentation medals)

-Jarrett Ciesluk, Andrew Palomba, Sean Russell - School-Based Enterprise


In addition to state champions, the team also had four team finalists:

-Katie Selleke and Tamera Marceta - Creative Marketing Project
Gabrielle Dobroczynski, Madison Goss, and Joceline Naddaf - Community Service Project

-Hannah Fotion, Hannah Schmittler - Hospitality and Tourism Research Operations

-Adela Barbura and Morgan Lessl - Sports and Entertainment - Team Decision Making
