Five Utica Community Schools seniors earn full ride scholarship to MCC

Scholarship provides full tuition for two years

Five Utica Community Schools seniors have been honored this year with scholarships from the Kathy and Jerry Wood Foundation.

Grace Burke, of Eisenhower High School, Simon Alnajjar, of Henry Ford II High School, Hannah Hedo, of Stevenson High School, Holly Dzieciolowski, of the Utica Alternative Learning Center, and Joseph LaPointe, of Utica High School were among 29 recipients of the scholarship for Macomb Community College.

The full scholarship provides each student with approximately $3,000 per semester for two years.
To qualify, students had to meet the following criteria:

  • -Be a graduating senior from a public high school in Macomb County,
  • -Have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 at the time of their high school graduation,
  • -Provide a letter of recommendation from a teacher, coach, employer, counselor or mentor,
  • -Submit a 250-word (minimum) essay about their educational goals, financial need and how the scholarship will make a difference, and,

-Showproof of acceptance at Macomb Community College


The Kathy and Jerry Wood Foundation is a private, charitable foundation established through the wills of the late Kathy Wood and her husband, the late Jerry Wood.
