Grant is music to the ears

Donated funds will support Roberts music program

Roberts Elementary has received a grant is music to the school community’s ears.

Roberts music teacher Dana Gress has received a $300 grant from The American Recorder Society.

The grant, titled “Recorder For All”, will be used to purchase recorders for advanced learners and special needs students.

A recorder is a woodwind instrument most commonly taught in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade.

Gress will purchase a consort of recorders, including bass, alto, soprano, and sopranino for advanced students to form an Advanced Recorder Ensemble. The funds will be used to purchase adaptive instruments for students with hand disabilities or fine motor impairment.

Adaptive recorders come in several smaller parts which allows the fingering to be rotated or altered to the student’s hands.
