Healthy HOSA club gains state leadership honors
Henry Ford II High School's HOSA club is active and healthy

The club has assumed many state level leadership spots in the medical careers organization, including roles as a board member, teacher of the year, and both state and national honors.
“I joined HOSA because I plan to become a physician and wanted to learn more about the medical field,” said Ford II senior Joseph Nambiathusseril. “It has allowed me to make connections and given me opportunities to work at different medical facilities.”
HOSA is a national organization that focuses on leadership development, motivation, and recognition of students enrolled in health science education and biomedical science programs or who have interests in pursuing careers in health professions.
The 95-member Ford II club will have a role in shaping state policy for the organization, with senior Daniel Mathew being elected State Secretary.
He will also be the only student speaker at the HOSA “Med-Talk” conference, joining health care professionals to talk about the neurological processes involved in successful test taking.
The Ford’s HOSA club has also been honored through a Medical Innovations team that earned a second place state and fourth-place national award for their original project - MedEase.
Kush Patel, a member of the team with Nambiathusseril, explained their project was a computer generated program that signals a medicine dispenser to remind an older adult, living alone with mild dementia, when it is time to take their medication.
In addition to the state and national honor, the club’s advisor - Karen Benson - was selected as the Michigan H.O.S.A. Advisor of the Year. She was presented with a plaque at the conference.
