History comes to life at Oakbook
Oakbrook students had an opportunity to become a historical figure during the annual 3rd grade Wax Museum
Oakbrook students had an opportunity to become a historical figure during the annual 3rd grade Wax Museum. This year the project took a different approach and included a family fundraising night for parents and guests to view and enjoy a living timeline.
This presentation project included various steps as students, teachers, families and specialists all worked together for a wonderful end result.
Students selected a historical figure to research and were able to complete this research under the guidance of teachers. Technology played a large part in the presentation component of this project as students completed timelines, research paragraphs, speeches and cited resources.
A large component of the Wax Museum was becoming the character through speeches and physical appearances.
Many students were able to decorate themselves in the appropriate historic era of their figure and relay facts and information to students and families. Third-grade students, Gavin LaRue and Emilia Benitez were invested in the project immensely.
LaRue stated, “The coolest part of the wax museum was getting to tell my speech to a lot of people.”
Benitez commented, “I would love to be Pocahontas over and over again. My favorite part was my Pocahontas dress that was very beautiful and comfortable.”
Third-grade teachers, Michele Resk, Sharon Smith, Rachel Riggs and Leanne McInally were highly impressed with the dedication and hard work demonstrated by all 3rd graders as they used this project as a stepping stone of continued academic future success.
