Ike students buckle up for their future

Eisenhower High School members of the Class of 2016 are in the driver's seat when it comes to their future.

"Always remember to put the phone down, never text and drive, don't speed through life, always take the scenic route, roll the windows down and enjoy every moment," said speaker Class of 2016, we made it, it's time to buckle up, crank up the radio, and enjoy the ride into our future."

Past experiences and a focus on the future were also the themes senior Santino Martoni.

"Even though we all walk different paths, we all have one thing in common – we are Eisenhower Eagles," he said "We are strong, talented and motivated."

Other stage speakers celebrated the accomplishments of the graduates and their ability to lead the future.

Noting the rapid pace of societal change, Superintendent Dr. Christine Johns said graduates are poised take the success they achieved as Eisenhower students to a new level.

"You are the new generation of leaders, dreamers, creators, and entrepreneurs," Dr. Johns said.

Board of Education Vice President Gene Klida told the graduates the question UHS students will face in their bright futures is "how will you use that preparation to not only succeed in the world, but to make it better."

Principal Nanette Chesney acknowledged the accomplishments of the graduates, including 60 valedictorians, 6 salutatorians, 171 National Honor Society members, 157 presidential scholars, 80 UCS Advanced Placement Scholars and $6 million in scholarships.
