Jazz bands in Utica Community Schools earn state title, best section honors at CMU festival

​Two Utica Community Schools bands took top spots at the annual Phi Mu Alpha Central Michigan University Jazz Festival earlier this month.

Two Utica Community Schools bands took top spots at the annual Phi Mu Alpha Central Michigan University Jazz Festival earlier this month.

The Eisenhower Jazz Ensemble took first place overall and the Stevenson Trombone Section won Best Section in the Class AA division of the 44th annual competition in Mount Pleasant.The February 3 festival featured over 70 of the best high school jazz bands and combos from around the state of Michigan.

“It was such an amazing performance by an even better group of young men and women, and we couldn't be more proud of their accomplishment,” said Director Christopher Traskal. “It truly is a historic day for the Ike Bands!”
