Little Hanson Wins 5K Hogs Hollow Race

The Hogs Hollow 5K race through historic downtown Utica and a 1 Mile Fun Run took place Saturday morning.

Samatha Hanson, 12, won the 5K Hogs Hollow 5K Race held through historic downtown Utica Saturday morning. The run, organized by Hanson's Running Store and three local churches, Discovery Church, Heritage and Shepherd's Gate, included more than 30 runners and raised money for Utica Parks and Recreation.

With a 5K route starting at the Clinton River bridge, runners went through historic downtown, north up residential streets, then back and under M-59 to the southern historic residential area and finally back through the tunnel, ending up right in front of the . The churches, especially Discovery Church, provided the 40 volunteers needed for the race, along with plenty of refreshments for after the race. Ribbons were given to the top three winners in the various age groups. Local businesses such as , Jodi Kloock (Zumba), Wendy Albright of MaryKay and Wildtree Healthy foods donated door prizes.

According to Bob from the event will happen again next year but will also have a 10K run with it. That run will go from the path along the Clinton River near historic downtown Utica to Dodge Park. A date has not been determined yet. Results of the Hogs Hollow race are available on the Hansons website and runmichigan.com.
