Pair of Utica Eisenhower Wrestlers Earn All-State Honors
Junior Charlie Myers and freshman Connor McDill pick up medals over the weekend at The Palace of Auburn Hills.
AUBURN HILLS – Charlie Myers kept things close until his very last match at the MHSAA individual wrestling finals.
Myers, who advanced to the finals in an overtime match against Clarkston’s Chris Calvano, lost in the 171 pound championship round finals to Detroit Catholic Central’s Drew Garcia on a 5-2 decision.
The Utica Eisenhower junior struggled to hit any offense during the match and admitted afterwards he couldn’t get into a rhythm against Garcia.

Teammate Connor McDill had a similar experience at The Palace of Auburn Hills in the 103 pound weight class. The freshman won his first match on a major 13-5 decision, but didn’t have a match after that decided by more than two points.
McDill provided fans with an exciting finish in his seventh place consolation finals match.
He forced overtime Davison sophomore Jacob Madrigal by escaping to neutral with 57 seconds left in the third round. In overtime, he hit a takedown with only one second left on the clock.
The officials called a stalemate with 11 seconds left. McDill immediately shot forward out of the stoppage to take Madrigal down.
