Police Blotter: Exploding Mailbox, Theft of Electronics, Smashed Car Windows

The following information was supplied by the Shelby Township Police Department.

Exploding Mailbox

On July 3, officers were dispatched to the 5600 block of Hearst Road for the report of destruction of a mailbox. It is believed that sometime during the night of July 2 or early morning of July 3, unknown persons blew up the residents' mailbox with fireworks.

On July 3, police were dispatched to the Pump It Up parking lot, where an individual reported that the driver's side rear window of her car had been smashed. Nothing was reported missing and no other damages were observed.

A Shelby resident reported that sometime between July 3 at 10 p.m. and July 4 at 8:30 a.m. an unknown person had vandalized her vehicle by writing in blue permanent marker on the driver's door and keying the area above the handle. There were no witnesses to the vandalism.

Tools and Electronic Fishing Equipment Stolen

A homeowner in the area of 23 Mile and Shelby roads reported that on July 2, an unidentified person or persons entered his garage and took a light blue bicycle, DeWalt sander and Black and Decker jig saw. There are no witnesses or evidence in this case.

On July 1, the resident of a neighboring township reported to police that sometime between June 20 and July 1, unknown persons removed electronic equipment from his Ranger powerboat, which was stored in a rental facility in Shelby Township. The owner observed the latches on the secure on-board storage bins had been broken and a Garmin console mount GPS ($400) and Lowrance console mount fish finder ($200) taken. The associated mounts and wiring connections were also removed. There are no suspects in this case.

Theft from Cars

Police were dispatched to the 54000 block of Chippewa Court on July 2 for the report of larceny from a vehicle. The vehicle's owner reported 15 CDs had been stolen from his vehicle while it was parked in the driveway of his home. There are no suspects at this time.

On July 2, police were dispatched to a home in the 25 Mile and Jewell area for a report of breaking and entering. The homeowner told police someone entered her garage through the side door and searched the interior of her car. The only items reported missing were cans of Diet Coke. Police observed no signs of forced entry and as nothing of value was taken, the case was closed.
