Schwarzkoff Elementary students rock the vote

Third graders have been learning about state government in social studies

Third graders at Schwarzkoff Elementary made their vote count as they put their citizenship skills to work voting for Michigan’s next governor.

Students have been learning about state government in social studies.

To prepare for the election, multiple forms of media were used to learn about the election process and to gather information, so an informed decision could be made.

Some of the activities included reading the profiles of each candidate, listening to speeches and writing about their choice for governor and why. Then it was time to vote! Students went to the voting booth to cast their vote on a secret ballot.

Afterward, students would pose for a picture, supporting either the republican or democratic party. The votes were counted, and students graphed their class results. In the end, Gov. Rick Snyder was reelected.
