Senior in Utica Community Schools earns entry into West Point Academy
Student one of only 1,200 graduates to earn admission

Utica High School senior Gurjiwan Chahal is among only 1,200 U.S. graduates to receive an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point.
The appointment to the academy – commonly known as West Point – is based on outstanding academics, performance on six physical fitness examinations, school reference letters, U.S. Congressional recommendations and interviews with West Point Admission teams.
Chahal, who also attends the Utica Center for Mathematics, Science and Technology, is a school valedictorian, holds an active role in National Honor Society and has been captain of his junior varsity soccer team. He also tutors students at Shelby Junior High School.
